Primavera® is the top provider of cloud on-premise Enterprise Project Portfolio Management (EPPM) solutions. It began as an individual firm called as Primavera® Systems in 1993, but was purchased by Oracle in 2008. Oracle Primavera® is a complete suite of products that help manage projects over their entire lifecycles. All the products can be used to manage risk versus reward, budget and resourcing.
Project Management professionals makeuse of this term to identify methods of analyzing and managing a group of current or proposed projects that operate as per variegated key characteristics. Under Portfolio Management, the main objective is the sequencing of proposed projects to achieve the organization’s overall goals. Such goals are usually expressed in terms of business strategy goals, technical strategy goals and hard economic measures, as per constraints of external real-world factors and management.
Program Management relates to coordination and prioritization of resources across projects. Resources should be utilized in a way that minimizes the overall costs and manages links between the projects and program risks. Program Management always operates at a level higher than individual projects.
Portfolio management is offered by P6 PPM and P6 EPPM, which can group projects into "portfolios". However, this is just a mechanism to simplify access to specific groups of projects. A portfolio can be defined as one having projects within a specific programme as well, for which reports can be produced.
There is significant confusion in the market place about these two Oracle products. Oracle P6 Professional can be used as a standalone application in order to access a locally installed database, which could be Oracle XE or Microsoft SQL Server Express. It can easily access a central database and also be used as a multi-user system, where data is to be shared with others.

On the other hand, Primavera® P6 EPPM is a web browser-based enterprise-wide project management system focusing on the handling of a wide range of roles, ranging from executives to team members.
