Google aims to help the Indian Government with a multi-Cloud experience

Currently associated with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Google Cloud is now aiming to serve all the departments in the Indian Government. Even though the country is among the nine countries with whose growth rate in Cloud adoption, state and central governments are planning to minimize their workloads with the implementation of Cloud technology. This Google product will help the government to have agile, scalable, and secure multi-Cloud experience with built-in AI and machine learning competences.

Backed by annual revenue of over $8 billion in 2018, Google Cloud is now mobilizing its efforts to get into the burgeoning Cloud opportunities in the government sector, including state and central government. “We are working closely with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to achieve the full Cloud Service Provider (CSP) empanelment. The idea is to help state governments have a secure experience with Cloud, along with utilizing New-Age AI/ML capabilities,” said Nitin Bawankule, Director, Google Cloud, India. As per the Director, it is the best time for the state governments to get multi-Cloud experience with built-in AI and ML facilities for pushing the Smart City Mission. It will also move their workloads to a secure on-premise as well as Public Cloud atmosphere.

Artificial intelligence, machine learning, and IoT are likely to push the Cloud market in India to $7.1 billion by 2022. Amazon’s Cloud arm AWS has registered a global revenue of $7.7 billion in the first three months of the current year, whereas Microsoft reported $9.6 billion revenue in the first quarter. With a noticeable growth of 24.3% from 2018, Public Cloud services revenue in India is projected to hit $2.4 billion in 2019. In adherence to the latest Nasscom report, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, and Internet of Things (IoT) are pushing the Cloud market in India; it is expected to reach $7.1 billion by 2022. To make its presence across the country, tech giant Google has ramped up efforts in the last one and half year.

At the same time, Indian small, medium, and large-scale enterprises are looking forward to introducing scalable, intelligent, agile, and fast Cloud technology on their digital journey. Apart from Google, global players like Microsoft and Amazon Web Services are the considerable names in this context. Both Google and Microsoft have enhanced their efforts to encourage customers by offering cheaper services with local data storage. However, the business segment in India is more dominated by Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure.
